Black children deserve joy. They deserve to feel seen and to learn in ways that honor their brilliance, their history, and their boldest dreams - even the ones no one else has dared to dream.

CLAUDIA WALKER

ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

Some people plan their way into their calling. For our founder, education found her.

A proud Spelman College alumna, Claudia set her sights on finance, building a career on Wall Street managing multi-million dollar transactions. Education wasn't on the radar, but life had other plans. A move back to California led her, almost unexpectedly, into a classroom.

What started as teaching middle school quietly became a vocation she never saw coming, and eventually, a mission she couldn't imagine living without.

She rose from teacher to principal, and under her leadership, her schools were ranked by U.S. News & World Report and The Washington Post as the #1 public high school in America.

That recognition was meaningful, but it was never the point.

As a mom of three children, Claudia has navigated private schools, public schools, parochial schools, predominantly white schools, predominantly Black schools, and yes, the pandemic homeschool experiment of 2020. She's lived the full spectrum of educational choices. That experience, layered on top of decades of professional expertise, gave her something no credential could: a parent’s perspective sharpened by an educator’s eye.

In 2020, she channeled that perspective into founding a publishing company dedicated to Black children and families. Her debut book, The ABCs of HBCUs, was born from a personal frustration. As an HBCU graduate, she was shocked by how little her own children knew about Black colleges. That book sparked a movement. As a solopreneur, she's built a publishing house that's caught the attention of major retailers,  landing her books on the shelves of some of the largest  stores in the country.

Black Parent Group Chat has become the educational arm of that mission: a gathering place for parents who believe their children deserve the absolute best.

Her voice on these issues has carried far. She's been invited to The White House to speak on issues affecting Black children and earned a fellowship to study Black history in Paris.

And now she's bringing all of it home to you.
